Ice Breaker Activity

Greetings fellow bloggers!

Because the purpose of this blog is to interact with one another and discuss our academics, career goals, interdisciplinary studies, personal interests, etc... I'd like to get things moving with a quiz we took in our Capstone course earlier in the semester.

I'm choosing to post two different quizzes because I couldn't decide which one I liked better. Choose one and post your results and whether you agree or disagree with your results. Also, explain why.

Feel free to begin posting information about yourself so we can get to know one another!

What Dog Breed Are You? - http://www.dogster.com/quizzes/what_dog_breed_are_you

Are you a lifer, a talent, or a mandarin? - http://www.tomorrowland.us/tlm/

Have fun! :-)

  1. Quiz Results :

    German Shepherd

    The Perfectionist

Doggedly dedicated to getting the job done, you don't let silly little distractions get in the way of putting in a full day's work. And after you come home, chowing down on a little grub and taking a little catnap is all it takes to get you up and at 'em for round two, whatever that may entail. Your dogma emphasizes the importance of hard work, and you swim laps around your dog-paddling, time-wasting co-workers. Your cleverness leads to you often being entrusted with some pretty important tasks, which you are always more than happy to sink your canines into. You really dig being outdoors and love a bit of exercise, but you draw the line at the ridiculous stuff, choosing a game of beach volleyball over Pilates in the park any day.

    My Personal Assessment:

I don’t know if I’d coin myself as being a perfectionist, but I do like to do things well, so I tend to put all of my effort into whatever the task at hand. I do consider myself a very dedicated person. I figure that so long as I’m doing something, I might as well do it right and do it right the first time, but I have no problem with making mistakes so long as I can learn from them.
I do like to work hard and feel like I’ve accomplished something at the end of every day. I’ve been known to pull all-nighters just to get a job done, though I can’t recall the last time I had a nap to compensate for time lost.

These results are correct in assessing my love for the outdoors. I love hiking and backpacking. I try to get out and exercise at least twice a week just to keep up routine and find some stress relief. I like to stay active, but it’s not always easy to find the time.

All-in-all, I would say these results are relatively accurate for my personality type, though I think the term ‘clever’ is pushing it. I like to work hard and see the results. Not to mention that I love German Shepherds!

  2. Border Collie

    The Achiever

You've heard about this "second-place ribbon" thing, but really don’t ever plan on getting one. Not a chance. Highly competitive, you keep one eye on the Best in Show prize and one on the rest of the pack, making sure you're always at least one paw ahead. You love your family and enjoy the company you keep, but you'd trade all of them in a heartbeat for a corner office and some meaty stock options. When you're not licking your professional coat, naked skydiving and triathlons keep you entertained. You idolize the top dog and will do so until you sniff out a way to take over the company and do a little "restructuring." Learn more »

FAMOUS BORDER COLLIES: Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, Martha Stewart, Barbara Walters

LIKELY PROFESSIONS: CEO, Banker, Manager, Astronaut

    ------------------------------------------------------------
I took the quiz twice with slightly different answers on a couple of questions, but still received the Border Collie result both times. So, just call me Lassie! I agree that I am pretty competitive at times and have become more of a perfectionist as I have gotten older. I am often far from perfect but I do tend to beat myself up over my imperfections quite a bit. The profession suggestions seem somewhat accurate. I would consider a career in finance and I am currently a manager at T-Mobile so those are right I guess. CEO would be nice depending on the business, I may freak out if I was shot into space so I am going to skip the astronaut suggestion. I do not really feel like any of these would be my dream job. If money was of no concern I would probably pursue a career as a writer, graphic designer, or something on the creative side.

  3. Hi Everyone,

    For the Dog Breed Quiz...

    Golden Retriever

    The Charmer

"Laid-back, sociable and well-groomed, you've got your own hip little pack of groupies who just love to be around you. You have a brain inside that adorable little head of yours, though you use it mostly to organize your hectic social calendar. You never poop out at parties, and since you're popular with ladies and men, as well as children and adults, you dish out your wit, charm and luck to whomever is close enough to bask in it. The top dog likes you and wants to be your best friend, despite the fact that he doesn't really know what the heck you do. No one does, in fact, but everyone loves you all the same. A true foodie, you’ve got your keen ears fine-tuned to make sure you don't miss out on the opening of a trendy new place to nosh. But your youthful days of being able to wolf down food 24-7 are wagging behind you, meaning you've got to watch what you eat so you don’t pull a Brando and outgrow your coats."

I am going to give this a 50/50 in terms of accuracy. I agreed with "laid back and well-groomed" but I am not the most sociable person you'll meet. In fact, I can be very reserved and quiet.

    For the Tomorrowland quiz...

I was a "Lifer!" I think this quiz was very accurate. To me, a job is what pays the bills and that's about it. Relationships, family, hobbies and outside creative pursuits are what really drives me. If fact, I have no idea what my "dream job" would be. ?
